    Measurement principle

The geometric condition of the STT-301C retroreflective marking instrument is to simulate the scene where a car’s headlights illuminate the retroreflective material on the road surface during nighttime driving, and after reflection, it is observed by the driver inside the cab. The schematic diagram of its optical path is shown in the following figure.

The angle between the optical axis of the headlight and the normal (reference axis) of the road surface is called the incidence angle (β), which is specified as 88.76 °. The angle between the optical axis of the headlight and the backlight is called the observation angle (α), which is specified as 1.05 °. The light source and optical system are projected towards the marking line according to the incident angle β, and the size of the measured marking line is 200 X 95mm. The light reflected from the marking line is emitted at an observation angle α of 1.05 °, and is detected and collected inside a V (λ) filter. After processing, it is displayed on the measurement value display, which is the measured value of the backreflection coefficient R ‘.
