1、 Overview of STT-301 Highway Marking Reverse Reflection Coefficient Measuring Instrument
The STT-301 type anti reflection marking measuring instrument is an optical measuring device used to measure the reflective performance of road markings. The measured parameter is the anti reflection coefficient R ‘(or specific brightness) of the marking, measured in mcd • lx-1 • m-2. This instrument is easy to operate and has reliable measurement values. It can be used for both laboratory and on-site measurements. It is an instrument used by production, quality supervision, engineering construction, supervision, and teaching and research units to measure the optical performance of highway marking retroreflection.
2、 STT-301 type highway marking retroreflection coefficient measuring instrument according to the standard
This instrument is designed in accordance with relevant technical documents and current standards in China, such as CIE Publication No. 72, ASTM D4061-94 in the United States, DIN67520 and 67521 in Germany, and meets the requirements of GB/T26377-2010 “Retroreflective Measuring Instruments”, GB/T16311-2009 “Quality Requirements and Testing Methods for Road Traffic Markings”, JJG (Transportation) 059-2004 “Verification Regulations for Retroreflective Measuring Instruments” and other standards.

This instrument mainly consists of two parts:

    5、 Measurement principle of STT-301 type
    The geometric condition of the STT-301 type anti reflective marking measuring instrument is to simulate the marking made of anti reflective material on the road surface when a car is driving on a highway at night, and after reflection, it is observed by the driver sitting in the car cab.
    The angle between the optical axis of the headlight and the road surface normal (reference axis) is called the incident angle (β), which is specified as 88.76 º; The angle between the optical axis of the headlight and the reflected light is called the viewing angle (α), which is defined as 1.05 º. The light source and optical system are directed towards the marking line at an incident angle β, and the size of the measured marking line is 300mm × 60mm. The light reflected from the marking line is reflected at an observation angle (α) of 1.05 º and detected and collected inside a V (λ) filter. After processing, it is displayed on the measurement value display, which is the measured value of the reflectance coefficient (R ‘).
    6、 Main technical indicators
    The main technical specifications of STT-301 type retro reflective marking measuring instrument are as follows:
    The observation angle α of the instrument is 1.05 º; The incident angle β is 88.76 º (complementary angle is 1.24 º);

7、 Operation steps of STT-301 instrument

  1. Power on; 2. Zero adjustment; 3. Calibration; 4. Measurement; 5. Shut down.
    7.1. Instrument startup
    Power on sequence: First turn on the function conversion switch, then turn on the measurement switch, and finally turn on the display switch;
  2. Place the ‘Function Switch’ in the ‘Measurement’ position.
  3. Press the measurement switch.
  4. Turn the ‘display switch’ to the ‘on’ position, and the monitor will display numbers.
    7.2. Instrument zeroing
  5. Align the bottom opening of the instrument (350mm × 80mm) and place it on the black zeroing plate.
  6. At this time, the measured value displayed on the screen should be “000”; If it is not 000, turn the 【 Zero Adjustment 】 knob until the displayed value is 000, which indicates that the zero adjustment is complete.
    7.3 Instrument Calibration
    Taking the white calibration plate with a calibration value of 230 as an example
  7. After zeroing, replace the black zeroing board.
  8. Replace the calibration board in the direction of the driving arrow (marked on the calibration board), and the measured value displayed on the screen should be the value “230” given by the calibration board; If it does not match the given value, turn the 【 Calibration 】 knob until the displayed value matches the given value of the calibration board, indicating that calibration is complete.
    7.4 Instrument measurement
  9. When measuring, the instrument should be placed flat on the measured line in the direction of travel. The stable value displayed in the measurement window (“212”) is the reflection coefficient value (R ‘) of the measured line. After recording the data, the measurement switch should be turned off in a timely manner.
    7.5. Instrument shutdown
    Shutdown sequence: First turn off the display switch, then turn off the measurement switch, and finally turn off the function conversion switch
    8、 STT-301 instrument charging
  10. Before using a road marking measuring instrument to measure road markings, the battery in the instrument must be charged first. Before charging, place the ‘display switch’ in the ‘off’ position.
  11. Place the ‘Function Switch’ in the ‘Charging’ position.
  12. Insert the charger plug into the [charger socket] hole.
  13. Insert the input wire plug of the charger into the charging (AC 220V) power supply.
    Note: 1. Please use the charger provided with the original equipment.
  14. The battery indicator light (yellow) on the charger means: constantly on=fully charged; Shining=Charging; Long cycle flashing=repair charging; Long on short off=basically full; Not lit=no battery or abnormal battery.
    9、 Instrument maintenance and precautions
  15. When the instrument has built-in optical components, attention should be paid to moisture prevention, especially when used for field measurements in winter. Temperature should not suddenly change. For example, when the outdoor temperature is below -10 ℃, the instrument should gradually move to a room temperature of+20 ℃ or above, otherwise the surface of the optical components of the instrument will be affected by frost and affect its use.
    During use and handling, attention should be paid to shock resistance and handling with care to prevent damage to components or inaccurate measurement.
    The correctness of the measured values is closely related to the zero adjustment plate and calibration plate. Therefore, the black zero adjustment plate and calibration plate equipped with the instrument should be properly stored and not dirty or damaged. If there is any contamination or damage, the supplier should replace them.
    When the instrument is not in use, please place it inside the instrument box.
