Industry standard: 1.8 g/cm³–2.3 g/cm³.
Amount of paint = density of paint x volume of marking line (area of marking line x thickness of marking line)
Calculation of marking thickness 2mm
For paint with a density of 1.8 g/cm³:
Weight of paint per square metre = Volume × Density = 2 mm × 1 m² × 1.8 g/cm³ = 3.6 kg/m².
For paint with a density of 2.3 g/cm³:
Weight of paint per square metre = Volume × Density = 2 mm × 1 m² × 2.3 g/cm³ = 4.6 kg/m².
The above comparison is based on the case where the marking thickness is 2mm.
The consumption of paint with a density of 2.3 g/cm³ is 1 kg/m² higher than that of paint with a density of 1.8 g/cm³.
In practical situations, the roughness of the road surface must be taken into account. Depending on the surface roughness, an appropriate coefficient should be applied to the thickness. For smooth surfaces like concrete roads or epoxy floors, this coefficient can be negligible. However, for rough asphalt roads, the marking thickness may increase to 3 mm. In such a case:
1㎡ marking amount (weight) = volume * density = 3mm * 1㎡ * 1.8g/cm³ = 5.4kg/㎡.
Regardless of the road surface, there is a certain difference in usage between the two.
Conclusion: For 10,000 m² of road markings, using lower-density paint can save 10 tonnes of paint compared to higher-density paint.
It should be noted that lower-density paint is generally more expensive than higher-density paint. Therefore, if you purchase particularly cheap paint, you need to consider whether the construction costs can offset the price difference caused by the increased consumption.
Different manufacturers produce paints with varying densities.
