Introduction to the Types of Raw Materials for Hot Melt Marking Paint

28 9 月, 2023

Hot melt marking paint is a commonly used safety marking paint on various highway roads. The raw materials do not contain volatile components of the coating agent.

During construction, the powder coating is melted by heating and applied to the road surface using mechanical equipment. After condensation, it forms road markings. The film forming mechanism is physical cold solidification. Hot melt paint has characteristics such as fast drying, wear resistance, and high reflectivity, making its use on high-grade highways increasingly widespread.

There are various types of raw materials for hot-melt marking paint, mainly including film-forming substances, secondary film-forming substances, and auxiliary film-forming substances. Generally speaking, they are synthetic resins, pigments, fillers, additives, reflective materials, and other aspects.

1. Synthetic resin is the main component of the coating film, which is melted by heating to bond various materials together and provide a certain amount of material to the coating.

This material must be thermoplastic, and in application, it must have good melting ability with various substances, light color, low acid value, and good heat and weather resistance, The commonly used synthetic resins for hot-melt marking paints are petroleum resin or rosin modified resin, and sometimes a small amount of polyacrylic resin and polyester resin are used as auxiliary resins.

2. Pigments are an important component of coatings, generally insoluble in water or oil as powder solids. The coatings used in hot-melt road marking paints are mainly colored pigments, with white and yellow being the most common.

3. Filler, also known as physical pigment, accounts for approximately 50% -60% of the total weight of the hot melt marking paint. There are various types of fillers, which have both commonality and individuality in terms of properties. During use, the selection should be based on specific conditions such as geography, climate, and temperature used in the hot melt coating.

4. Although coating additives only account for a small proportion of the total amount in coating formulations and are not the main film-forming substances, they have a significant impact on the production, manufacturing, and performance of coatings. When used properly, they can significantly improve the performance of coatings and are very important in practical applications.

4. The application of reflective materials is the biggest difference between hot melt marking paint and ambient temperature solvent based coatings. It is precisely due to the excellent nighttime reflective performance of hot melt paint that their application in certain areas has incomparable effects compared to ambient temperature solvent coatings.
