The Importance Of Controlling The Construction Temperature Of Road Hot Melt Markings

Road marking is very important as it guides the driver’s peers. Why should we control the construction temperature of hot melt road markings during road marking construction?

Hot melt reflective road marking coatings are usually composed of thermoplastic resins, pigments and fillers, reflective materials, and other additives. The hot melt marking coating utilizes the thermoplastic and hot melt properties of synthetic resin to provide fast drying properties and firmly adhere the marking to the road surface.

The construction temperature of hot melt marking paint usually refers to the temperature of the marking vehicle hopper. A reasonable coating temperature can ensure a close connection with the road, and the material temperature in the hopper should be maintained at 180~220 ℃.

1. The heating temperature of the hot melt marking coating is too low, which can have the following effects:

(1) When the temperature of the molten material is below 180 ℃, too low a temperature can affect the extensibility of petroleum resin molecules, thereby reducing the adhesion of the markings to the road surface. The connection between the markings and the ground is not firm, which can easily cause detachment.

(2) If the heating temperature of the fusion line coating is too low, it will affect the fluidity of the hot melt coating, resulting in the appearance of burrs on the surface of the construction line and affecting the appearance of the line.

(3) The temperature is too low and the glass beads are not firmly attached, which can only ensure the immediate reflection effect after the construction of the marking line, but the long-term reflection effect is poor.

2. Excessive heating temperature of hot melt marking paint can have the following effects:

(1) If the heating temperature of the hot melt marking coating is too high, the additives will accelerate the volatilization in the hot melt marking coating. Other organic materials such as resin are prone to decomposition and carbonization, which can cause the markings to become brittle or even fall off severely after use.

(2) If the heating temperature of the hot melt marking coating is too high, the viscosity of the coating will be low, the fluidity of the coating will become stronger, and the glass beads will be easy to sink and sink into the molten coating, which will affect the instant reflection effect of the marking.

(3) If the temperature is too high, the coating will stay in the hot melt kettle for too long, which will cause discoloration and yellowing of the coating, thereby affecting the quality of the coating.

Therefore, in the construction of road markings, the construction temperature of road hot melt markings must be strictly controlled.
