The Application and Advantages of Road Hot Melt Paint Resin

05 9 月, 2023

Knowledge about the application of petroleum resin in road marking paint. I hope it can be helpful to everyone. Road signs and road markings are coated with coatings, which are commonly referred to as road coatings by hot melt marking paint factories. There are mainly room temperature, heating, and melting types.

The branches used for road sign paint mainly include acrylic resin, alkyd resin, chlorinated rubber, modified alkyd resin, epoxy resin, petroleum resin, etc. Petroleum resin has the advantages of low price and excellent performance compared to other resins, and petroleum resin has good adhesion to concrete or asphalt pavement, as well as wear resistance and water resistance. In addition, petroleum resin has good affinity with inorganic substances, making it easy to apply Good weather resistance, fast drying, and high firmness. Petroleum resin can not only improve the physical and chemical properties of coatings, such as hardness, impact strength, and bending, but also improve their UV resistance and weather resistance, with a longer service life of up to 3 years. It is known that the use of hot melt marking paint in foreign countries accounts for 25% -30% of the total amount of petroleum resin road marking paint.

Petroleum resin is an insulating material, sealing material, and pouring material. Aliphatic petroleum resin has good weather resistance and can be used to make outdoor high-voltage insulators to replace ceramic products. It has the characteristics of light weight, small size, good impact resistance, and easy production. Due to its excellent electrical performance and color stability, it can be used as a packaging material for light-emitting diodes. Due to the high heat resistance, small curing shrinkage, and good dimensional stability of alicyclic petroleum resins, hot melt marking coatings can be used to make petroleum casting molds (plastic molds). It has the advantages of being easier to process, cheaper in price, lighter in weight, and easier to mold than metal molds. Especially suitable for composite material parts with large forming dimensions, complex profiles, high precision requirements, and low production capacity. It has been widely used in aircraft and automotive manufacturing.

Hot melt road marking paint, composed of petroleum resin, EVA, PE wax, pigments and fillers, is in powder form at room temperature. It is heated to 180-220 ℃ using a hot melt kettle, stirred and kept warm for 3-5 minutes, and then in a flowing state. It is applied to the road surface to form a strong coating film. It has the characteristics of full linear shape and strong wear resistance. During construction, reflective micro beads are scattered on the surface, which has a good reflective effect at night and is widely used on highways and urban roads. According to different usage environments and customer requirements, we will provide different types of specifications for you to choose from.

Characteristics of Hot Melt Pavement Marking Coatings

Strong adhesion: The resin content is reasonable, and special rubber elastomers are added to the base oil, resulting in super strong adhesion. Ensure that the construction process is reasonable and does not cause detachment.

Good resistance to cracking: Hot melt markings are prone to cracking due to temperature differences. Add sufficient EVA resin to the coating to prevent cracking.

Bright color: Using top-notch coating pigments, with a reasonable ratio and good weather resistance. Long term exposure without discoloration

High coating rate: low density, large volume, and high coating rate are our major characteristics.

Excellent stain resistance: The quality and dosage of PE wax are key factors affecting its stain resistance, and Exxon PE wax has been the company’s preferred product for many years.

Precautions for the construction process of hot-melt pavement marking paint:

1. Ensure that the working surface is clean and dry. It is recommended to construct at temperatures above 0 ℃ (please increase the material temperature appropriately for low-temperature construction)

2. When the coating melts, the temperature should be controlled between 180-220 ℃. After melting, it should be thoroughly stirred and kept warm for 3-5 minutes before being discharged, in order to fully reflect the performance of the current hot melt pavement marking coating

3. The bottom oil treatment should be sufficient, and the marking should be applied after the bottom oil is completely dry. For newly completed cement pavement, it is recommended to delay construction for three months or undergo a second coat of primer treatment, otherwise the markings may fall off.

4. For newly completed cement pavement, it is recommended to postpone construction for three months or undergo a second coat of primer treatment. Otherwise, it is easy for the markings to fall off

5. In construction on sections with high traffic volume, after applying primer, please place warning caps to prevent wheels from rolling over, taking away primer and leaving dust, otherwise some markings may fall off.
