1、 The Five Core Causes of Poor Coverage
Material characteristic limitations: Light colored coatings have lower pigment content (such as a lower proportion of titanium dioxide), resulting in naturally weaker coverage than dark colored coatings; Some low-priced coatings use ordinary resin, which has strong transparency after film formation and is easy to reveal the base color.
Inadequate surface treatment: The original road surface has floating ash, oil stains, or partially cured old coatings, forming an “isolation layer” that hinders the adhesion of the coating; Cement pavement has sanding, asphalt pavement is loose, and the coating cannot form a continuous film layer after penetrating the pores.
Insufficient construction thickness: In order to pursue “thin coating and fast drying”, the coating is too thin (below the standard thickness) during construction, which cannot cover the surface defects; Uneven equipment pressure or excessive pushing speed can lead to local leakage or thin coating.
Environmental interference: Under high temperature conditions, light colored coatings dry too quickly and solidify before being fully leveled, forming “orange peel patterns”; The evaporation of moisture on the wet substrate causes the surface of the coating to shrink, revealing the underlying color.
Ratio and process deviation: The ratio of coating to diluent is unbalanced (excessive diluent), resulting in a decrease in coating viscosity and inability to adhere to the substrate; Non layered construction (such as applying primer to seal pores before applying surface layer on cement pavement) results in insufficient covering power.
2、 Four step system solution
Partial touch up coating: After cleaning the floating dust in the exposed area, apply a high coverage special topcoat from the manufacturer of Three Ais Road Surface Color Change Coating (with a coverage increase of 40%);
Overall recoating: For large areas of discoloration, the old film needs to be thoroughly removed, and the process of “sealing with bottom glue → applying thick surface layer” should be followed for re construction.

3、 Preventive construction standards
Triple acceptance of base surface: cleanliness (no floating ash or oil stains) → porosity (cement pavement ≤ 5%) → strength (pull-out test ≥ 1.2MPa).
Dynamic quality monitoring: Use a wet film gauge to measure the thickness (deviation ≤ 0.3mm) for every 100 square meters of construction, and compare the color uniformity with a color chart.
Special scenario enhancement: When redrawing old lines, the old markings need to be polished to expose a fresh base surface and coated with interface enhancer to enhance adhesion.
